Educational Philosophy and Curriculum Design
The task for this powerpoint was to create a visual representation of the relationships of the different conceptions of curriculum to the different philosophical foundations and then to the different curricular designs.

Your intro of your process was a great way to highlight each other’s work, strengths and weaknesses. As a reader, it is nice to have that background information. Your approach of directing the reader towards a philosophy that they identify with, creates a foundation for the “where do I belong?” question we may ask ourselves when reading about different educational practices. When I was going through the readings and the project with my partner, I found myself caught between philosophies and, I also found myself relating my practice to multiple conceptions based on the two different subjects I teach and the grade. I also saw the philosophies vary when I reflect on the different years of teaching. What were your thoughts about how the philosophies and conceptions fit into your practice?
ReplyDeleteIn terms of your last slide and the triangular figuration, I found it interesting because my partner and I actually had the philosophies as the foundation, the concepts followed and then the design, whereas you had the first two reversed. I would love to hear more about why you chose to put conceptions as the foundation?
Cheers!

I definitely find myself also really connecting to different elements of the various philosophies. Teaching 10 year old girls I feel a pull to idealism. I really connect with the idea of developing their own individual beliefs and opinions. I notice that the students often piggy-back on the ideas of their friends and family. This is of course natural, but I really like the idea of creating a safe environment in my classroom to challenge some of this. I feel like this curricular design might work better for a personal development and then as the students get older, to branch out into the other designs and develop their role as a global citizen.
